The USBF Press Association issues nationally recognized press passes to verified journalists, reporters, photographers, and media professionals.
The USBF Press Association exists to support and legitimize professional journalism by issuing tamper-resistant press credentials to individuals who meet our rigorous qualification standards. Every applicant is individually reviewed.
Each press pass is tied to a verified professional identity. We check employment history, published work, and professional references before issuing any credential.
Not everyone who applies will be approved. We maintain high standards because the credibility of your press pass reflects the standards of the organization behind it.
Approved applicants receive a professionally produced, durable press pass card suitable for presentation at events, venues, press conferences, and public affairs.
Any third party — an event organizer, venue, or public information officer — can contact us directly to confirm the authenticity of any credential we have issued.
Our team is available by email to answer questions about the application process, renewal, and to assist with verification requests from accrediting organizations.
Credentials are valid for one year and subject to renewal review. This ensures that our credentialed member list reflects only current, active media professionals.
Founded in 2019, the USBF Press Association was established to fill a need for a credible, independent credentialing body for U.S.-based media professionals operating outside of large legacy newsrooms.
Today we serve working journalists, independent reporters, freelance photographers, documentary filmmakers, and broadcast correspondents across every U.S. state. Our press passes are recognized at events, press conferences, and venues nationwide.
Every application is reviewed by a member of our credentialing committee. We do not issue passes automatically — your credentials are earned, not bought.
Credibility is everything. We evaluate every application against these criteria to ensure that USBF press credentials carry real professional weight.
Applicants must provide a portfolio of published or broadcast work demonstrating active, ongoing media activity.
We verify the legal identity of every applicant. Press passes are non-transferable and linked to a specific individual.
Freelancers must demonstrate an active, verifiable relationship with one or more recognized media outlets.
Applicants must agree to the USBF Press Association Code of Ethics and professional conduct standards as a condition of credentialing.
Submit your application by email. Our credentialing team will review your materials and respond within one business day.

A USBF press pass is a professionally produced identification card that certifies the holder as a credentialed member of the press. It is issued exclusively to applicants who have successfully completed our vetting process.
All applications are submitted by email. Our process is straightforward — we simply require enough information to properly verify your professional status.
Gather the following before applying: a government-issued ID, a recent headshot photo (300 DPI or higher, plain background), your current professional bio or resume, and at least three links to published or broadcast work from the past 12 months. Freelancers should also include a brief statement of their outlet affiliations.
Email your application to info@usbfpress.org with the subject line "Press Pass Application – [Your Full Name]". Attach your headshot and ID scan (face visible), and include your work samples and professional background in the body of the email or as an attached document.
Your application will be reviewed by our credentialing committee. We verify your identity, confirm your media affiliations, and evaluate the quality and volume of your published work. We may contact you with follow-up questions. The review period is typically 3–5 business days.
You will receive a decision by email. Approved applicants will be sent a fee invoice for credential production and processing. Upon payment, your physical press pass will be produced and mailed to your address within 5–7 business days. You will also receive a PDF confirmation of your credentials by email.
Credentials expire after one year and must be renewed to remain active. Renewal applicants must reconfirm their active media status. You will be contacted 60 days before your credential expiry with renewal instructions.
